Michael McKay Murphy

Michael has more than 20 years of political experience as an Incumbent and with strategically managing campaigns. He is a graduate of Archbishop Carroll High School in Washington and holds a BS in Marketing from St. Louis University. Michael will share his insight at the media training workshop into the development of campaign messages, coupled with sound strategies to augment the importance of an effective media presence.

Michael was born in Fayetteville, NC and grew up in Washington, DC. He spent more than 25 years in key corporate positions for Ford Marketing Corporation and Dunkin Donuts. In 1985, he began his political career when he decided to run for the Board of Health in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He won that race by 76 votes, and went on to serve three successful terms in Canton, MA. In 1990, Michael ran for the office of Governor’s Council and won every Precinct. He lost his re-election bid – as did almost every Republican in 1992 – after the GOP take-over of the Commonwealth in 1990. In 1994, he left the corporate arena to run for US Congress (MA-9).

Michael later came to the Atlanta area with a group of environmentally dedicated business partners to start a recycling firm in Atlanta’s Empowerment Zone Area. He began managing political campaigns after the closing of the firm in 1999. He was most notably involved in the successful election of the late Sheriff-Elect Derwin Brown of DeKalb County.

Michael has also managed campaigns for Jarrett Gorlin, for DeKalb County Commissioner; Simone Manning-Moon, for DeKalb County School Board Member; Geraldine Champion, for Sheriff DeKalb County; and Keisha Waites, for Atlanta City Council. He continues to be involved in major campaigns, most notably that of Dr. Deborah Honeycutt for Congress, District 13; Lt. Ernest Strozier, for Clayton County Sheriff; and Steven Lee, PhD., for GA State Rep, District 44.
